Ubald was born in a world when the church  was a
governing power. Nothing was done without the Church's blessing.
The Serre family (devot catholics) would pray for hours daily and going
to sunday mass was mandatory.
After he left home Ubald contiuned to  church to read the scriptures
and be involved in some way or another.
It was in the late 80's when he decided to pursue the studies of a
Deacon.
Once a man is accepted into the Deacon Formation Program there are three additional years of preparation for ordination. The
formation for diaconate is not only academic but also spiritual and ministerial. A man in deacon formation meets monthly with a
spiritual director. He and his wife also develop a mentoring relationship with an ordained deacon and his wife, meeting together at
least two hours a month.
Diploma and Certificate of Pastoral
Theology at Sherbrooke University 1991.
Candidates are installed as reader and acolyte in due time as well as being accepted as candidates for the order of deacon by the
Archbishop. For each installation the students carry out ministerial projects in their parish correlating to the Word, Liturgy and
Charity/Justice.
It is a deacon’s task to reserve and distribute the Eucharist, to bless marriages in the name of the Church, to baptise, the administration
of Holy Communion,to take Viaticum to the dying, to read the sacred scripture to the faithful, to instruct and exhort the people, to preside
over worship and the prayers of the faithful,to administer sacramentals, and to officiate at funeral and burial services.
